Guiding Principles
Family Partnership and Choice in Engagement
We recognize families as essential partners in the educational journey and are committed to creating an inclusive, welcoming environment where individuals feel valued, heard, and empowered to participate in ways that reflect their unique strengths, capacities, and interests. We appreciate the diverse roles families choose—whether through classroom support, sharing of interests and expertise, leadership, or quiet encouragement at home by seeking to provide flexible, meaningful opportunities for involvement.
Rigorous, Standards-Aligned Academics
JCCS is committed to high expectations within a balanced, enriched curriculum aligned with state standards. Students are supported to meet or exceed grade-level expectations through intentional, differentiated instruction and varied pathways to mastery.
Emphasis on Applied and Adaptive Academics
Academic skills are taught through meaningful, hands-on experiences that connect to students’ lives, interests, and communities. At the same time, instruction is flexible and responsive, ensuring that every learner—regardless of ability, background, or learning style—can engage in rigorous content through differentiated supports, pacing, and materials. This idea promotes high expectations for all students while honoring individual strengths, needs, and pathways to success.
Developmentally Responsive & Personalized Learning
Instruction is tailored to students' cognitive, social, and emotional development. Teachers employ flexible and small-group support, play-based strategies, and family involvement to ensure instruction meets learners where they are and how they grow.
Inquiry, Interest, and Student Agency
Students actively construct understanding through exploration, questioning, and meaningful choice. Learning experiences are designed around student interests and encourage deep thinking, creativity, and reflection.
Experiential, Place-Based, and Multi-Modal Learning
Learning is grounded in real-world experiences, local environments, and cross-curricular integration. Through outdoor exploration, arts, movement, and community engagement, students develop a deeper connection to their learning and the world around them.
Collaborative and Multi-Age Learning Environments
Classrooms foster relationships and community through mixed-age mentorship, cooperative learning, and shared projects. Students learn to lead, support, and grow together in ways that extend beyond academic success.
Community, Reflection, and Restorative Culture
Instructors seek to cultivates a culture of care through restorative practices, self- reflection, and family-school partnerships. Students and families work together with educators to support both personal and academic development.
We are currently seeking families and partners who share our belief in a bold, student-centered future.
Let’s reimagine education together.
